DEHRADUN: A 12-year-old girl and her 10-year-old brother were buried alive after the wall of their house collapsed following a landslide in Dhanaulti area of Tehri Garhwal district in Uttarakhand early Sunday morning
As per district emergency operation centre, Tehri Garhwal, the rear wall of the house caved in after being hit by debris and big boulders which rolled downhill following a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall uphill.
The siblings were sleeping when the incident took place. Their bodies were recovered by a State Disaster Response Force team. “Both the kids were buried under debris. They were rushed to a primary health centre where doctors declared them dead,” said SDRF inspector Lalita Negi.
As per the regional meteorological centre, Dhanualti and nearby areas received nearly 50 mm rainfall between Saturday night and Sunday morning. Mussoorie recorded 90mm during the same period.
