Gaurikund: A landslide caused by heavy rains in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district's Gaurikund, the primary halt of the Kedarnath yatra, claimed the lives of four people and left fifteen others missing late on Thursday night. Three stores close to Daat Puliya were destroyed by the flash floods.
According to officials, search and rescue activities are being carried out by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) andNational Disaster Response Force (NDRF), as well as local police and disaster management organisations. Rescue and relief activities are being hampered by persistent rock falls from the mountains and heavy rainfall. Three diners from Nepal who had come to the restaurant for dinner, together with a man, his wife, and their daughter who operated a dhaba nearby, are among those missing,
according to district disaster management official Nandan Singh Rajwar. Customers Dharmaraj and Sukhram Rawat, as well as Bir Bahadur, his wife Sunita, and their daughter Nisha, are also missing. Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief minister of Uttarakhand, arrived at the secretariat in Rudraprayag's Disaster Control centre to assess the situation. He gave the go-ahead to the local relief and rescue operations to be expedited.
According to him, a notice should be sent out at all locations where flooding is a possibility due to rising river levels.
